Kaysen c ontinues a relationship with a man, whom she knew before entering the hospital, and accepts his marriage proposal. She reveals her diagnoses: borderline personality disorder and discovers that it is most common in women than men. She also reflects the contrast between the brain and the mind. Kaysen wonders why the doctors only decides to treat one rather than the other or even both. Some years after being release, Kaysen runs into Georgina who is married, and the healthiest patient that got released. She also runs into Lisa, who is surprisingly a sane single mother and lives in a descent suburb. Kaysen shows the origin title of her book as a sub header: Girl Interrupted. After little over twenty years, she arrives at a painting in front of New Yorks Frick Museum. She states, Interrupted at her music: as my life had been, interrupted in the music of being seventeen, as her life had been, snatched and fixed on canvas (Kindle Book, pg. 1755). This statement shows that Kaysens life was interrupted by her mental illness that had been hidden from her for seventeen years but was soon discovered after she decided to show her true colors by attempting suicide. How does this book ties in with things we discussed in class? Psychology is the study of the human brain and how it processes certain behaviors. This book/movie gives the readers a look at the different disorders that has been diagnosed to certain patients who is interviewed by a psychiatrist before entering. Different disorders such as sociopaths, borderline personality disorder, depression, anorexia nervosa, and addiction are all associated with each patient that was introduced in the book. One girl that was not mentioned in the summary was Janet, the girl who had been diagnosed with anorexia nervosa. Anorexia nervosa is where a patient decides to starve him or herself because they have a low self-esteem. The nurses in the hospital pass around drugs such as barbiturates, which is a drug that helps the central nervous system calm down and help the patients sleep. Getting interviewed by Melvin, Kaysen over hears that her disorder could be genetic, which upsets Kaysens mother. Either genetic or not, the disorder falls under the topic of nature vs nurture. This lets the readers know that her mental disorder could be the cause o f parents genes or due to her surroundings at home. In the movie, modeling has been used between the characters Lisa Rowe and Kaysen. Modeling is where one visualizes what one does and copies that persons actions. For example, Lisa introduced herself to Kaysen by asking to bum a cigarette from her and blows smoke into an old lady who was as still as a statue. When Lisa had to rush off to an appointment, Kaysen decided to blow smoke in the same womans face but ends up getting called an asshole. Reading and watching this experience, I have discovered the psychological impact that psychology has on our everyday lives and how it effects the way people think of us. This was a great book and I was glad I got to read about Susanna Kaysens mental illness and her experience in the hospital.

I have a wonderful proofreader, and, between us, we comb the newsletter each week. But hey, sometimes when the stars align and we both have a bad week, an item slips There is little more insulting than for someone who never offers positive feedback, to smugly tell someone that their grammar is wrong. Let me explain why. 1) Once the words are said and/or published, they cannot be taken back, regardless of how noble the criticism. You did wrong, becomes more the message. 2) Rather than educate the person (as the critic often states is their motive), theyve insulted them. Unless the critic is personally close to the individual, their criticism will be considered  critical, not enlightening. 3) The critic is remembered as a critic. They are burning a bridge. 4) The mistake might be a one-time thing. Better to wait and identify a trend rather than pounce on a happenstance slip. Critics will often begin their assessment with one of the following remarks: 1) I normally love your work, but this mistake bothered me 2) You are normally keener than this, but I couldnt help but notice 3) I used to be an English teacher/bestselling novelist/editor/term paper grader and cannot help myself 4) Sorry, but Ive always been fanatical about grammar, and I couldnt help but notice If its not repetitious, dont do it. The most frequent complaint heard from college students is that their professors are out to fail them and ruin their chance at getting a career. But, what they need to understand is that the professors job is not to force you to do your work, they will not follow you home to make sure that you do what you have to in order to pass the class. Responsible,that seem to be the thing a lot of freshman students seem to lack. They think that they can get away with the same thing that they have been getting away with in high school, that their teacher will pressure them to do their homework and class works in order to pass the class. What they need to understand that they are paying for the education that they are getting, it is up to them if they choose to take it seriously or not. However, it is hard for some kids to go from a high school where their teacher would be on their back about the work their missing work to a college student where the professor would tell them what they need to do and it is up to them if they complete the work or not. On our defence, it hard sometime to go from having some one holding your hand to having to do everything on your own. In your first year of high school, the teacher tell you that they are not here to babysit anyone, they are here to prepare you for college. Most students do not know how to handle the stress they have so they use alcohol, drugs or cheating as a stress reliever. In times of stress, the best thing we can do for each other is to listen with our ears and our hearts and to be assured that our questions are just as important as our answers. A majority student go out of state for their college experiences, the desire to get a degree at a university can be a rewarding experience but it can be a challenges to living on campus. For many it is the first time outside of the protection of their family’s security. Coming from parent that used to provide all they need and set the boundaries they went by. When they unleash to the life of a college student where the same life they used to live don’t apply any more. Some student take advantage of their new found freedom to try new thing like drinking, smoking, parties out with friend, wasting hundreds of dollar ruin their college years. Other fall under the pressure and fall prey to depression and bad thoughts. Taking advantage of your freedom can be in a good way like joining clubs, and spending your money wisely. If you new friend want you to join with them smoking and drinking then you need to get a new group if friend that would have a positive influences on you. The only time success occurs before work is in the dictionary. Too many student enter college thinking that theres nothing but good time, friendship, and a new change of direction. They soon come face to face with the challenges and struggles of college life. The challenge of having to take care of their education, having to depend on yourself for success. The struggle of feeling like you are a fail to everyone around you. The difficulty of getting used to all you used to know. They need to keep in their mind â€Å" Before you can work smart, you must work hard†. Opportunities don’t just happen, you need to create them.

Many schools do not have policies that allow trans students to use the bathroom that matches their gender identity. This creates a difficult learning experience for the trans student, because they are put into uncomfortable situations. Trans students are more often than not to use the bathroom and locker that matches their biological sex and not their gender identity. A Thanksgiving Experience Essay Coming to the United States as an international student from Sweden, I got introduced to many new traditions and holidays. Some of these holidays are also celebrated in Sweden, for example Christmas and Easter, even if we might celebrate them a little differently. But, I also got to experience new and different traditions. One of the new traditions I got to experience was how to celebrate a real American Thanksgiving. The first time I celebrated it, I was 17 years old and didnt think too much of it. Of course, I thought that it was nice to get some time off from school and have a delicious meal, but there wasnt much more to it than that. But now, a couple of years older, living on my own, far away from my family, Thanksgiving has gotten a whole other meaning to it, and I absolutely love this holiday. To me, Thanksgiving is a time to spend with the family, a time to show them how thankful you are for having them, and a time to tell them how much you appreciate them. Since my own family is in Sweden there was no question of where my boyfriend, Ryan, and me were going to spend Thanksgiving this year. His family lives in Connecticut so we packed our bags and flew up to the chilly but absolutely gorgeous little state in the North East. I have been there many times before and every time his parents welcome me with open arms, like I am one of their own. This makes me feel like I really am part of the family and that I belong there for this holiday. We stayed at their house and they served us like it was their job. On Thanksgiving Day we left for an early lunch at the Grandparents house and after that we went to the other Grandparents to have dinner. That way, we got to see the whole family on Thanksgiving Day, and that was our goal. Even if we had to spend some time driving around, it was well worth it as we got to see how our appearance made everybody feel happy. If our appearance made everybody else happy it was nothing compared to how it made us feel. Both Ryan, and me were ecstatic that we were able to come home and be with the family on this day and we were determined to show them how thankful we were for having them. But, Thanksgiving is not a time where you show other people your appreciation by buying them gifts, like you do for Christmas, so instead we tried to simply make sure that we acted, and told, everybody how thankful we were for having them. There are lots of ways you can show people you appreciation. This Thanksgiving, for example, I said a Swedish prayer before dinner, even though Im not very religious at all. But, Ryans grandfather was born in Sweden, and wished to hear some Swedish, so I thought it was a good opportunity to make him happy, and I was right. The only thing this old man wanted to talk about for the rest of the evening was my prayer. It was nice to see how something so simple could make someone so happy. Making people happy and show them how thankful you are for having them is nice, but I feel that the most important thing is to tell people that are close to you how much you love and appreciate them. Acting and telling people that are close to you, how much you love them are something you should always do, but somehow it seems to be easy to treat the ones you love carelessly every now and then. Therefore it is nice to have at least one day when you really think about how you act and what you say. Thanksgiving, I think, is a great opportunity for doing just that.
